Alliant Energy Announces Two New Board Members
Michael Bennett and Ann Newhall Join Energy Company's Directors
MADISON, Wis., Aug. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Alliant Energy Corp. (NYSE: LNT) today announced the appointment of Michael L. Bennett and Ann K. Newhall to its Board of Directors. Bennett is president and chief executive officer of Terra Industries, Inc., an Iowa-based producer of nitrogen products and methanol. Newhall serves as executive vice president and chief operating officer of Minnesota-based Rural Cellular Corp., a wireless telecommunications provider. With the appointment of Bennett and Newhall, the membership of Alliant Energy's Board stands at 12.

In 1973, Bennett joined Terra Industries -- a company with 2002 revenues of $1 billion -- and steadily worked his way up the ranks until rising to the position of president and CEO in 2001. He also serves as chairman for Terra Nitrogen Corp., a subsidiary of Terra Industries.
Bennett is very active in Iowa communities, serving on the boards of the Fertilizer Institute, the Methanol Institute, the United Way of Siouxland and the Iowa State University Agricultural Endowment. He is the past chairman of the board of the Methanol Institute and the Agribusiness Association of Iowa and previously served on the boards of the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce and Morningside College.
In addition to serving as executive vice president and chief operating officer for Rural Cellular Corp. (RCC), Newhall is secretary and a director for the publicly traded company, which provides wireless telecommunications products and services in 14 states. Prior to joining RCC in 1999, Newhall served as a shareholder attorney and president of the Moss & Barnett law firm in Minneapolis.
During her 22 years with Moss & Barnett, Newhall became experienced with business issues including tax, financing, and mergers and acquisitions. She also regularly advised businesses on strategic planning and regulatory issues.
